Time to start searching for a winter break job.

Finding the money to buy those “Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanzaa/Solstice…” gifts shouldn’t be nearly as hard as you think. We are happy to report the seasonal hiring outlook, while down from last year’s numbers, is still good. Many companies, usually retailers, hire an abundance of temporary workers to prepare for boosts in traffic and other activities during the holiday season. Common jobs in this sector consist of stocking, wrapping, exchanging, selling, and transporting. In addition to retailers, an extra need exists in companies focused on the transportation and delivery of goods. To put it simply: Gifts need to be shipped and received. » Read more

Roadtrip Nation is Coming to Campus!

Green Roadtrip Nation RVRoadtrip Nation, a public television and webisode series, is coming to campus Tuesday, November 10 and they will be bringing with them their huge green RV and a message of self-discovery and growth through interviewing the nation’s most inspiring people.

About Roadtrip Nation
Started in the summer of 2001 by a group of students who hypothesized that one way to figure out what you want to do with your life and who you want to be is to interview “people who are doing what they love, then ask them how they got there.” That group traveled 17,000 miles and interviewed 85 “eclectic” people, including former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. Now what they have done has transformed their passion into Roadtrip Nation and a movement that “encourages students to hit the road in search of interviews with people who have defined their own distinct routes through life.”

Roadtrip nation is now broadcasted nationally through PBS and has been picked up by over 200 local stations including PBS’s Oregon’s affiliate OPB. They are now in their sixth season and are taking applicants for their seventh. » Read more

On May 8th the Student Advisory Board headed over to Ninkasi Brewing Company here in Eugene, OR to find out more about the business of brewing in Eugene, OR with owner Nikos Ridge.  Here’s what we found out...

Q: What did your career path look like and how did you come to own Ninkasi Brewing?

A: I grew up in Eugene, OR and started out in the financial industry and I met Jamie (business partner) Jamie is more of the brewing side and I am the business side.

Q: How did your major in college or education lead you to this career?

A:  I got my degree in economics and started doing something inside the financial industry. After I met Jamie he told me Eugene would be a good community and area to start up a brewing company.

Q: What risks did you take early on in your career that helped lead you to where you are today?

A: I guess starting out in a competitive industry could be risky and also starting out in Eugene.  However, it was good because it provides good accessibility and a good local community.
