Liberty Mutual Insurance Actuaries use their analytical talents to resolve thought-provoking business problems and bring value to our Customers. They work in a collaborative and dynamic work environment where the challenges are ongoing. Our Actuaries regularly make recommendations to management and are partners in the decision making process. They provide business advice and support senior management by providing analysis critical to the key functions of our business.

Many of our Actuarial Development Program Participants began their Liberty Mutual Insurance careers as Actuarial Interns!

Actuarial Interns have the opportunity to explore the actuarial career path, perform real actuarial work, and gain relevant industry knowledge. Our internships typically take place during the summer and focus on training, development, and application. We provide internship opportunities across several functional areas, such as: modeling, pricing, product, reserving, marketing, claims, etc. for both commercial and personal lines.

At Liberty Mutual Insurance, our Interns will:
• Acquire relevant actuarial experience working within one of our many actuarial teams across the organization.
• Work on a variety of projects and assignments, and gain valuable perspective about our actuarial program, company culture, and business operations.
• Perform various actuarial analyses under supervision.
• Develop presentation skills and have an opportunity to present their work to their peers and managers.
• Attend formal training where they learn key actuarial concepts and increase knowledge of insurance industry.
• Have an actuarial peer mentor to answer questions, help guide them in their first days, and support them during their internship.
• Build their network through exposure to the actuarial community at Liberty Mutual.
Qualifications
• Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field
• A record of academic achievement, including a GPA of at least a 3.0
• Actuarial Exam experience is not required, but is preferred
• Solid oral / written communication skills
• Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
• Highly proficient in Excel; SAS and programming skills are desirable
