Performs specialized corrections work in any of the following areas: maintains custody and surveillance of inmates confined in the correctional facility; observes and reports inmate behavior and physical condition; recommends inmate discipline and other action; escorts inmates and/or the public within the corrections facility; supervises and instructs inmates on various work crews; inspects inmates' quarters for cleanliness, safety and contraband; monitors all inmate activities; provides routine information concerning inmate status, departmental rules and facility policies and procedures.

Knowledge of:

Pertinent federal, state and local laws and ordinances pertaining to law enforcement and corrections operations, including laws of arrest, search-and-seizure, evidence, civil process, traffic and department policies and procedures, rules and regulations.

Ability to:
Properly utilize required equipment; perform strenuous physical activities; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain harmonious and effective working relationships; maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to include the composition of handwritten reports; exercise mature judgment and react quickly and effectively in emergency and high-stress situations; conduct investigations, collect, evaluate, and analyze facts and draw correct conclusions; meet the hiring standards established by both the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standard and Training and the Lane County Sheriff's Office. Ability to obtain/maintain firearms qualifications.

Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade. Two years of college is preferred.

Must have two years experience dealing with the public.

An equivalent combination of experience and training, demonstrating the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying.
