We currently have an opening for a New Grad Process Development Engineer, Epitaxial Growth within our LED Chips group at our global headquarters facility in Durham, North Carolina. We hope you’ll read on to see if you have what it takes to join the revolution.


In this position you will be responsible for the development and improvement of epitaxial growth processes for III-V Nitride type LED products. The successful candidate will be a resourceful, hands-on, problem solver with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical problems while contributing to one or more development efforts.

You will be working with a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to drive the revolution in developing next generation LED chip technologies and coordinating the transfer of these products into production.

This position is open to candidates with no semiconductor or growth experience as well as to those who have demonstrated semiconductor processing ability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
•Work with a team of Scientists, Engineers, and Technicians to develop, improve, and integrate new epitaxial growth processes for III-V, Nitride-based LED products.
•Analysis of parametric data and preparation of summaries (written and verbal).
•Take ownership of projects related to MOCVD process development including experiment scheduling, data analysis, layer characterization, directing equipment maintenance, and experimental design.
•Support and lead process-improvement and new-product-introduction projects and coordinate process transfers to production teams including complete product qualification.
•Be the technical lead for the R&D Epitaxial Growth team on 2nd
•Support the development of next generation LED chip technologies for solid state lighting applications.

Minimum Requirements:
•BS or MS in Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or other technical degree. New or recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
•Strong written and oral communications skills. Able to summarize data and communicate findings quickly to support a 24x7 R&D operation.
•Able and willing to work in a 24x7 manufacturing environment with strong development focus.
•Self-starter with a strong work-ethic
•Passion to "do whatever it takes" to make things happen.

Preferred Requirements:
•Semiconductor growth or wafer fabrication experience (industrial or academic environments).
•MS or 1-3 years of experience in the semiconductor industry in a manufacturing or R&D capacity.
•Experience with databases and data analysis tools (SQL, Access, JMP, Excel, etc.).
•Relevant work experience, such as III-V epitaxial layer growth or III-V LED experience.
•Demonstrated problem solving ability
