We are in need of a Production and Processing Technology (PPT) intern to support and carry out the production research experiments for the North America Large Seeded Vegetable Inbred Characterization group (sweet corn, garden beans and peas). This technician will assist in evaluating parent lines, as well as laboratory and field production strategies for improved seed quality and yield. Specific areas for support will include running experiments that assess basic producibility, plant population densities, de-tasseling practices, desiccation, and seed quality.


Operational Responsibilities:
•Coordinate the design, set-up, and planting of Seed Production Research (SPR) trials at all required locations domestically.
•Perform seed lab work including trial setup, field mapping, planting preparation, seed cleaning, and labeling.
•Perform fieldwork including planting, staking, pollination, data acquisition and seed harvest.
•Process seed from field studies.
•Assist in managing seed inventories in order to conduct required experiments.
•Manage data from experiments which includes acquisition, analysis support.
•Assist with lab seed treatment applications and related field trial plantings.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

Critical knowledge:
•Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a
•Bachelors or advanced degree in an applicable discipline
•Preferred Ag Biology or Geology
•Keyboarding and computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook)
•Good organizational skills
•Legible handwriting
•Able to work without supervision
•Valid Driver's License
•Proficient in English

Preferred Knowledge:
•Knowledge of plant physiology
•Knowledge of seed biology
•Knowledge of field research techniques and technology

Additional Information:
All applicants must be eligible to work in the US. Valid Driver’s License and acceptable moving violation record is required. This is either a 3 month or a 6 month internship.
