Oregon Caves ranger-guides present interpretive cave tours and other programs about the Oregon Caves and surrounding area for the public. The primary focus of the position is delivery of 90-minute cave tours and 60-minute candlelight tours of the cave, and a tour of the historic Oregon Caves Chateau. New guides receive 10-days of safety and first aid, operations, and interpretive development program training. Applicants must have the mental and physical ability to lead as many as four, 90-minute cave tours each day. The complete tour is almost a mile long. It involves twisting and bending through low, narrow cave passages, including ceilings as low as 45", sometimes with flashlights in dark "blackout" conditions.
Enthusiasm, good customer service skills, public speaking and knowledge of the earth sciences, especially geology, are essential to succeed in the position.
