Youth M.O.V.E. Oregon is seeking a YOUNG ADULT PEER with life experience in mental health, addiction/recovery, incarceration/juvenile justice, foster care, education, LGBTQ+, etc. The Crisis Youth Peer Support Specialist (YPSS) provides peer support services to young adult participants in Mid-Valley. They will work alongside a multidisciplinary crisis team that will include: clinical staff, family partner, youth partner, and other providers in the area.

Locations worked will be in a crisis center, as well as offering mobile and virtual support through text, chat, and phone. Crisis support is open to youth and young adult participants ages 14-25, many of whom experience challenges related to mental health, oppression, addictions/recovery, and other system involvement. You will build connections to participants and assist in needs-identification, solution brainstorming, and self-advocacy. You will foster a welcoming environment and engage youth using peer support and innovative technology. Furthermore, you will be expected to demonstrate competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.


Compensation: $16 - $18 D.O.E. / Hourly

Utilizing their specific training, the YPSS may:

Assist young adults in identifying and attending other support services, resources, or opportunities
Provide young adults with assistance in developing natural supports
Assist young adults in creating long-term life goals known as life-assignments (40 Developmental Assets)
Utilize and assist young adults in gaining problem-solving skills
Assist peers in identifying and combating negative self-talk

The YPSS will communicate and keep documentation on:

Weekly supervisory meetings
All peer interactions (these documents may be used for official purposes)
Any data related to goal setting/meeting

The YPSS will serve as a partner between mental health staff and participants by:

Providing and advocating for effective recovery based services
Assisting peers in obtaining services that suit their recovery needs
Meeting with mental health professionals to improve relations between peers and staff
Modeling effective communication skills, and problem solving to resolve conflict between participants and staff
The YPSS will provide culturally responsive support services:

Share lived experience in young-adult serving systems (mental health, addiction/recovery, incarceration/juvenile justice, Oregon Youth Authority, foster care, education, LGBTQ+, etc.)
Utilize evidence-based practices including Positive Youth Development, CPS, Wraparound and the 40 Developmental Assets


Bicultural/bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to build/sustain collaborative working relationships.
Excellent advocacy and public speaking skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Strong attention to detail.
Outstanding oral/written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
Ability to travel and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
Identification as a peer with lived experience.


First Aid Certification
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
Oregon Food Handlers Card


Ability to travel and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and car insurance.
Willingness to update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and attending trainings.
