OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Relief Counselor is responsible for on-call relief counselor work with adolescents in a crisis intervention and residential program.
Substitute for Youth Development Advocates as needed.
Is available for on-call shift coverage when regular staff is sick or on holiday.
Maintains safe milieu utilizing behavior management, crisis intervention and youth development techniques.
Conducts intakes as needed.
Documents in staff log and youth files.
Provides crisis intervention to phone and walk-in clients.
Cooks meals as needed.
Acts as a positive role model.
Provides transportation for program activities.
Implements a youth development approach.
Follow all program policies and procedures.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Education: Associate's degree or equivalent experience in social services or related field.
Experience: Working with youth and families preferred.
Availability: Variable shifts. Early mornings, days, nights and weekends.
Driver's License: Valid in Oregon, acceptable record, and insurability under Agency's auto insurance.
Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals and as a member of an integrated team.
Ability to relate effectively with youth, parents, community, and referral sources.
Ability to work in effectively with runaway/homeless youth and their families, assisting them with crisis intervention, behavior management, and access to social services.
Ability to work in an unstructured, sometimes stressful environment, and maintain a positive mental attitude.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Professional appearance appropriate to the position.
