Student Perspective: Updates from Monica's job search - Interviews!

Monica’s been busy so if you haven’t been following along you should catch up. Two interviews just this week! She’s a great writer and has us all laughing and cheering. I find myself checking every morning because I’m curious just to know what she has to say and if she got a job. With as many twists and turns as LOST we’ll do the same thing they do and bring you up to speed with some of the highlights:

"Yesterday was a day of optimism. Today is a day of pessimism. I could ramble on about how I'll never find a job, but it's getting old.”

"So far the best way to beat the job search blues has been to get something done. So today I wrote a CL and found 10 great job openings.”

"’U.S. unemployment will approach 10 percent as the country endures its worst recession since World War Two...’ How cheery.”

"Wow. I just wrote a cover letter. Only took me half an hour. I must be getting good at this."

“There are days I'd like to take my economics degree and trade it for a culinary program.”

"More degrees don’t mean more money! If you aren’t sure what to do next the LAST thing you should do is stay in school" http://bit.ly/2JF3Jz

Student Perspective: Who is Monica? Meet & Tweet

Monica is twittering about her current experience looking for work. We will be hosting her updates on our website. We hope you will follow her progress, learn from her (as well as others) and cheer her on.

You are not in this boat alone. There are lots of people to learn from and lots of people willing to help.

I graduated from the U of O in June, and now I’m twittering about the process of my job hunt because I want to share the ups and downs of looking for work. I’m looking forward to working, and most days I’m excited about my future. Sometimes, however, I get discouraged--an employer never called, I can’t find any new openings, or I read about the unemployment rate rising.

In case you want to hear a little more about me, well, here’s my story:

Student Perspective: Monica and Zack are fishing for a job - Follow them on Twitter!

Job hunting is a lot like fishing. It takes patience and persistence. There is often a lot of waiting involved. It can get frustrating. Sometimes there are bites and sometimes you get nothing at all. But, sometimes you catch one!

Monica and Zack are fishing. Like many of you, they are looking for a job. Given present market conditions, the pond could be small. Monica is a recent graduate of the UO and is currently unemployed. She has been in search of employment for about 9 months.

I think I'd rather say not yet employed then unemployed. 7:24 PM Feb 10th from txt
