The non-profit disAbled SailOR of Oregon is looking for people to help sail our 25 foot red racing sailboat (Quadzilla) this summer and at WaterFest an aquatic picnic at the lake on July 13. We have just added a 22ft pontoon boat to our fleet adding a powerboat to the program this summer so wakeboard skills are valued.
disAbled Sailing of Oregon (disAbled SailOR) is a program of Eugene based non-profit World Wheelchair Sports.
While novice sailors are welcome to apply, applicants would ideally have real sailing experience and know how to tie a bowline. Applicant's who have U.S Sailing credentials or an Oregon Boaters Card will be given priority. Novice sailors and others with outdoor adventure experience and who are comfortable in and on the water will be given a chance to really learn a lot about sailing and adaptive recreation.
Coordinators help prepare the boats for use, take equipment to the docks, meet the participants when they arrive and help outfit them with life jackets. When everyone is ready to load, the crew assist everyone into the boats. Once on the water the crew assist the boat captain/helm/skipper sail, cruise or race the boat accordingly. We are looking for self-motivated people with backgrounds in sports and fitness - who like working outdoors . Good organizational and people skills are essential. Mechanical, sailing and other watersports skills a plus.
