Biography

Mariah Helm is a career readiness coach with the University Career Center. She helps guide students with their career exploratory journey or talks them through the importance of finding and articulating their “why” that sets them aside from everyone else. She also finds meaning in her work by encouraging students to represent their culture and values within the workforce. Mariah is also the peer coaching program supervisor and understands the value of students having access to career and internship education through connections with their own peers on campus. She is proud to be a Dreamer Ally.

Mariah found her passion for working with students through leadership roles on campus, such as student government, teaching assistant and mentor of the Building Business Leaders program, and co-founding the Music Industry Collective. Mariah earned her BS in business administration (entrepreneurship concentration) at the University of Oregon. She has been a career coach for the past five years and started her coaching journey working with at-risk youth in the local community. When she isn’t with students, she’s either dancing salsa and bachata, reading and sipping tea, or lounging with her kitties Nahla and Safari.

Mariah’s mentor in college once taught her that no matter where you are in life, always remember: “Careers come in seasons. Expect for paths to change when you do.” She likes to take this piece of wisdom with her throughout her coaching career whenever students come to her with the same feelings of self-doubt and uncertainty.
