- If at any time you need additional support with this process, contact the University Career Center at jobs@uoregon.edu or 541-346-3235.
- You can also find a more detailed step-by-step guide at Handshake’s Help Center.
NOTE: The UO uses the “company” model for on-campus employers. You will create an employer account for yourself, then join your existing department in Handshake, or create a new one.
1. Create an Employer User Account
- Navigate to https://app.joinhandshake.com/employer_registrations/new
- Use your UO email address (e.g., name@uoregon.edu).
- Choose a password and complete your basic contact info.
- Click Sign Up.
If you already have a student or alumni Handshake account, you will need to follow the steps outlined in this Handshake article.
2. Connect to an Existing Department Profile
Most departments already have a profile in Handshake. To connect to your department:
- On the “Connect to your Company” page, search for your UO department name (e.g., "University of Oregon Housing").
- Select the correct one and click “Request” to join it.
- Your request will be reviewed by your employer’s account owner. You will get an email when approved.
- If you do not know who your account owner is or if they have left the UO, contact the Career Center at jobs@uoregon.edu or 541-346-3235. Do not create a new department profile when one already exists.
Cannot find your department?
- First, try a few different name combinations. E.g., “UESS,” “Undergraduate Education and Student Success,” etc.
- If you cannot find it, check with your colleagues who have also been involved in student hiring.
- If your colleagues are unsure what the department Handshake profile is called but believe one exists, before creating a new one, please contact the University Career Center at jobs@uoregon.edu or 541-346-3235.
If you are certain that no Handshake profile exists for your department, proceed to the next steps to request a new on-campus department profile.
A. Create a New Department Profile
- Click “Create New Company.”
- Enter your department name. Try to make it easy for others to find by avoiding specific acronyms (e.g., “CBSO,” “PPPM,” “ISSS,” etc.).
- Fill out the requested information.
Once submitted, you may get automatically approved, or the University Career Center may need to review and approve the employer profile. The University Career Center may reach out to you for clarification.
B. Connect Your New Department Profile With the UO
After your Department Profile is approved, check your company settings to make sure you are marked as an on-campus employer and linked to your school.
- Click your name in the top-right corner, then choose Company Settings.
- Under Details, check the box for On-Campus Employer.
- Select “University of Oregon” from the school list.
- Click Update Employer at the bottom to save.
